2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Flaxseed & Aloe Curl Jelly: My Frizz-Free 3A–3C Recipe. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine or low-porosity curls, use a lighter hand with the jelly and add a bit more water to your hair before application. This prevents weighing down your curls. If you have high-porosity hair, you can increase the amount of aloe vera in the recipe, as it helps seal the cuticle and lock in moisture.
For wavy hair (2B–2C), apply the jelly with a praying-hands method to encourage gentle waves without heavy curl clumping. For tighter coils (4A–4C), you might want to add a few drops of jojoba oil to the jelly for extra slip and moisture. The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility—you can adjust the ratios to suit your unique curl pattern.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
