2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Boho Half-Up Twisted Crown: Botanical Hold & Heatless Waves. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity hair that repels moisture, I’d skip heavy creams and rely on a light rose hydrosol spray plus a tiny bit of aloe gel—it gives hold without weighing down. If your hair is high-porosity and thirsty, work a pea-sized amount of jojoba oil into the ends before twisting to seal and define.
For straight hair, I recommend adding a few loose curls with a heatless ribbon set the night before—it gives the crown texture to grip. For very curly hair, twist larger sections and let a few coils escape for that effortless boho vibe. Adjust the twist tightness based on your curl pattern: looser for waves, firmer for coils.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
