Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands

For low-porosity hair, which resists moisture and color, I always add a few drops of marshmallow root gel to the gloss mixture. It helps the botanical pigments adhere to the smooth cuticle without needing to lift it. If your hair is medium porosity, you can skip the extra gel and just use the basic cinnamon-hibiscus blend—it will take beautifully on its own.

For those with fine, straight hair, keep the gloss on for just 10 minutes to avoid over-darkening. If you have wavy or curly hair (2B–3B), extend the soak to 20 minutes and add a teaspoon of amla powder to boost shine and definition. The goal is always to enhance your natural base, not to mask it.

🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide

  • Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
  • Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
  • High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
