2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Romantic Bob: Soft Layers for Date-Night Hair. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

📌 Pin Hair Guide
Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For straight, fine hair, I keep the bob slightly longer—just grazing the collarbone—and add a few internal layers to boost volume without making it look thin. If you have wavy or curly hair, I cut it shorter and dry, so the spring of your curl lands exactly at the cheekbone. That way, you get that romantic, tousled look without any heat styling.
If your hair is coarse or thick, I’ll remove weight with a slide-cutting technique and leave the perimeter slightly rounded. This prevents the dreaded ‘triangle head’ and keeps the bob soft and feminine. And for anyone with low porosity hair, I always finish with a lightweight botanical oil—just a drop—to seal in moisture and add that glossy, kiss-of-light finish.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
