2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Romantic Updo: Protective Styling for a Wedding Dance. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

📌 Pin Hair Guide
Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For straight to wavy hair, like my bride’s, I recommend a low chignon with soft face-framing pieces. It’s timeless and easy to secure with just two pins. If you have curls or coils, adapt this by leaving the crown loose and letting your natural texture create volume—just twist the back into a pineapple puff for a protective yet playful look.
For fine hair, add a touch of dry texture spray at the roots before pinning to prevent slipping. For thick hair, divide into four sections and twist each before wrapping—this reduces bulk and helps the style last. Remember, the goal is to protect your ends, so always tuck them under, never leave them exposed.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
