2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Bouncy Layered Curl Cuts & My Botanical Leave-In Hydration Method. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For wavy 2B hair, I’ll keep the layers longer and more subtle, starting below the chin, to encourage gentle S-waves without too much volume. If your hair is fine, I recommend a lightweight aloe-based leave-in and a creamier curl enhancer only on the mid-lengths to avoid flat roots.
For tighter 3B curls, I’ll cut shorter, stacked layers at the crown to boost volume, and use a heavier butter blend with slippery elm for deep moisture. Always consider porosity: low porosity hair needs lighter, water-based products, while high porosity craves richer oils and butters to seal the cuticle.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
