2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Modern Shaggy Bob: A Parisian Cut for Curly Hair. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

📌 Pin Hair Guide
Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine, wavy hair (2A–2B), I keep the layers longer and softer, starting around the chin to avoid too much volume at the crown. I also add a subtle point-cut at the ends to create movement without sacrificing density. For coarser, tighter curls (3B–3C), I go shorter and more aggressive with the layers, often adding a slight undercut at the nape for that modern edge.
Porosity matters too. If your hair is low porosity, I always recommend a lighter botanical oil like jojoba, which seals the cuticle without weighing it down. For high porosity, I’d suggest a protein-rich rinse—like rosemary hydrosol—to strengthen the curl. The cut should always be tailored to your hair’s unique needs, not the other way around.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
