2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: A Curly Cut for Effortless Volume. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity curls like Marie’s, I keep the bob slightly longer in the front to avoid excess bulk, and I use argan oil to seal in moisture without weighing down the strands. If your hair is high-porosity, I’d recommend a softer, more rounded bob with a leave-in aloe vera gel to define curls and prevent frizz in humidity.
Wavy 2A–2B hair? Try a longer, lob-style bob with subtle layers that start at the chin—this gives movement without too much volume. For tight 3C–4A coils, I’d go with a stacked bob that adds shape at the nape, and I’d suggest a heavier butter to keep curls juicy and defined.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
