2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: Effortless Curls with a Soft-Layered Cut. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For wavy hair (2B–2C), I keep the layers a bit longer to encourage soft S-waves—this prevents them from becoming too fluffy. If your hair is on the finer side, I’d suggest a one-length bob with subtle face-framing pieces, which gives the illusion of thickness without sacrificing movement.
For tighter curls (3C–4A), I go for more aggressive layering on the top to create lift, but I keep the perimeter clean and slightly rounded. The key is balancing the porosity: low-porosity hair might need lighter, water-based products, while high-porosity curls benefit from richer butters and oils to seal the cuticle.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
