2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Modern Curly Bob: A Parisian Cut for Effortless Volume. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
If your curls are looser, like 2B waves, I’d angle the bob slightly longer—just grazing the collarbone—to give the waves room to move without flipping out. For tighter coils, like 4A, I keep the bob shorter at the nape and add more internal layering to prevent the dreaded triangle shape.
Porosity matters too. Low-porosity curls need a cut with fewer layers to avoid frizz, while high-porosity curls can handle more texturizing because the ends won’t look stringy. Always tell your stylist about your porosity before they pick up the scissors—it changes everything.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
