2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: Curly Cuts for 2023 That Frame Your Face. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

📌 Pin Hair Guide
Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
If your hair is fine and wavy (2A–2B), keep the bob slightly longer—just grazing the collarbone—and ask for feathery, point-cut ends to avoid bulk. For tighter coils (4A–4C), I recommend a shorter, stacked bob with deep layers at the crown to create volume and reduce heaviness. Always bring reference photos, but trust your stylist to adapt the angles to your face shape and curl density.
Porosity matters too. If your hair is high porosity (like Léa’s after years of heat styling), I’ll pre-treat with a protein-rich botanical mask before the cut to strengthen the strands. Low porosity? I use a lighter, water-based hydrosol to avoid buildup. The cut should always be the final step after your hair is balanced, so the shape reflects your healthiest texture.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
