2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands

For low-porosity curls, the cut needs to be slightly more textured—think shorter internal layers that release weight, so your hair doesn’t sit flat. Pair that with a lighter botanical rinse, like chamomile or rose water, to avoid heavy oils that just sit on the strand. For medium porosity, you can go a bit bolder with the layers and use a richer jojoba blend to lock in moisture without weighing down the curl.

If your curls are tighter, around 3B, I’d shorten the top layers dramatically and keep the perimeter longer—this gives that modern, sculpted look without sacrificing volume. For wavier 2B hair, keep the layers longer and softer, almost like a shag, so the wave pattern isn’t broken. The key is always the angle of the scissors: point-cut into the ends, never blunt, to let the curl spring up naturally.

🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide

  • Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
  • Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
  • High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
