The Soft Curly Bob: A Parisian Cut for Natural Texture

2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture

Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Soft Curly Bob: A Parisian Cut for Natural Texture. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands

For loose waves (2B–2C), I keep the bob slightly longer, grazing the collarbone, and add subtle face-framing layers. This gives movement without losing length. For tighter curls (3B–3C), I go shorter, around cheekbone level, and use more internal layering to prevent the dreaded pyramid effect. The key is to cut less than you think—you can always take more off, but you can’t put it back.

If your hair is low porosity, avoid heavy butters that sit on the strand. Instead, use aloe vera gel—it’s light, hydrating, and defines curls without weighing them down. For high porosity, a drop of argan oil seals the cuticle and locks in moisture. I always tell my clients: the cut is only half the story; the right botanical care makes it shine.

🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide

  • Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
  • Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
  • High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
