2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Hibiscus & Rosehip Rinse for Radiant Salon Color. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine, low-porosity hair, use a shorter steep (around 10 minutes) and dilute the tea half-and-half with cool water. This keeps the rinse light so it won’t weigh down your strands or leave a residue. For thick, high-porosity hair that drinks up moisture, steep a stronger tea and add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel for extra slip and hydration—it helps the botanical pigments cling to the hair shaft longer.
If you’re a brunette looking for richer depth, add a pinch of black tea to the mix for a subtle, warm tone boost. Blondes should skip the hibiscus (it can leave a pinkish cast) and instead use rosehip with a few drops of chamomile tea for golden highlights. And for those with sensitive scalps, always do a patch test—hibiscus is gentle, but everyone’s skin is unique.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
