2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: A Strong Foundation for Healthy Hair. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine, straight hair, keep the bob’s foundation blunt with minimal internal layers—this preserves density and gives a sleek, strong line. If you have wavy or slightly curly hair (2A–2C), ask for a ‘soft triangle’ layering: more weight at the nape, lighter at the crown, so the waves stack without puffing out.
For coarse or thick hair, I’d recommend a graduated bob with a stacked back—this removes bulk and creates a flattering curve that follows your neck’s natural line. And if you have low porosity hair, avoid heavy butters in styling; instead, use a lightweight argan oil serum after washing, which seals without suffocating the cuticle.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
