Lived-In Sandy Blonde with Oat Protein Bond Care

2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture

Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Lived-In Sandy Blonde with Oat Protein Bond Care. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands

For those with low-porosity hair, the cuticle is tight, so I’d recommend a slightly warmer sandy tone and a lighter touch with the color. The oat protein will help open the cuticle just enough for the color to deposit, but you’ll want to avoid heavy conditioners that can sit on top and weigh things down.

If your hair is high-porosity, the opposite is true—you need more protein and less heat. I’d use a chamomile rinse after washing to calm the cuticle and lock in moisture. The lived-in effect works beautifully on both textures, but the angle of the ribbons matters: on wavy hair, I paint them diagonally to follow the wave pattern; on straight hair, I keep them more vertical for that sleek, modern look.

🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide

  • Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
  • Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
  • High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
