2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: A Curly-Friendly Cut for Effortless Volume. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity curls, which tend to resist moisture, I keep the bob slightly longer at the front and add a few internal layers to encourage lift without weighing things down. A spritz of aloe vera juice before styling helps seal in hydration. On the flip side, high-porosity hair benefits from a more structured bob with blunt ends—this minimizes frizz and gives a polished finish, especially when you add a drop of argan oil to the ends.
If your hair is wavy (2B–2C), I’ll angle the bob to graze the collarbone, which elongates the neck and gives a beachy, effortless vibe. For tighter coils (3C–4A), I might go shorter in the back and leave the front longer, creating a modern, face-framing silhouette. The key is always the same: cut dry, respect the curl, and let the botanical products do the heavy lifting.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
