2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Razor-Cut Wavy Shag with Rice-Water Botanical Foam. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity hair, which tends to repel moisture, I’d lighten the rice-water foam by adding a bit more aloe vera gel and a drop of jojoba oil. This helps the product absorb without leaving residue. On the other hand, high-porosity hair needs a little more protein, so I’d enrich the rice water with a teaspoon of honey and let it sit for an extra minute before rinsing—this seals the cuticle and prevents frizz.
If your waves are more on the curly side (3A), I’d recommend a slightly longer top layer in the shag to give curls room to bounce. For looser 2B waves, keep the razor cuts more vertical to encourage that S-pattern. And always, always finish with a cool shot of air when diffusing—it locks in the shape and adds a natural sheen that no serum can replicate.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
