2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Noir Bob: A Chic, Low-Maintenance Cut for Natural Texture. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

📌 Pin Hair Guide
Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For wavy hair (2B–2C), I recommend a slightly longer bob that hits just below the chin, with soft layers to enhance movement. For coily hair (4A–4C), a shorter, stacked bob at the nape adds volume and reduces bulk. The key is to adjust the cutting angle: straighter cuts for fine hair, more aggressive point-cutting for thick, dense curls.
Porosity matters too. If your hair is low porosity, use a lighter botanical oil like safflower to avoid weighing down the cut. High porosity? A marshmallow root rinse will help seal moisture and keep the bob sleek. Always customize your aftercare—what works for one curl pattern may not work for another.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
