2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Nettle & ACV Cuticle-Sealing Rinse for Hard Water Hair. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity hair, which tends to repel moisture, I recommend a shorter soak—just 3 minutes—and a slightly more diluted ACV (1:5) to avoid over-softening the cuticle. Follow with a lightweight leave-in to lock in hydration, because low-porosity strands need that extra barrier to prevent frizz.
If your hair is high-porosity, like chemically treated or heat-damaged strands, you can let the rinse sit for up to 8 minutes. The open cuticles will drink in the nettle’s minerals, and the ACV will help smooth them down. I often add a few drops of jojoba oil to the final rinse for these clients, which mimics the scalp’s natural sebum and gives a silky finish without weighing down fine textures.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
