2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: Curly Cuts for Spring Volume & Shine. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine or low-porosity curls, I keep the bob slightly longer, around the collarbone, and use a lighter touch with oils—just a drop of argan oil on the ends to avoid weighing them down. If your curls are coarse or high-porosity, like Léa’s, I go shorter and add more internal layers to remove bulk and encourage spring. A rounded, A-line shape works wonders for adding volume at the crown.
For wavy 2B hair, I suggest a one-length bob with a subtle under-layer to create movement without sacrificing length. For tight 4A coils, I recommend a tapered bob that’s shorter in the back and longer in the front, which frames the face beautifully and reduces styling time. Always ask your stylist for a dry cut—it’s the only way to see how your curls truly fall.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
