2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: A Soft Curly Cut for Natural Movement. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity curls, where the cuticle lies flat and resists moisture, I’d recommend a lighter leave-in and more frequent water-based spritzes. The bob can be cut slightly longer to prevent it from looking too heavy, and I’d use a diffuser on low heat to encourage gentle drying.
If your curls are high-porosity, they tend to soak up moisture but lose it fast. I’d focus on sealing with argan oil and might cut the bob a touch shorter to reduce weight and enhance bounce. The key is to adjust the angle of the cut—softer for fine hair, more defined for thick curls—to suit your unique density.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
