2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Botanical Bob: A Soft Curly Cut for Effortless Waves. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine, low-porosity hair, I’d keep the bob slightly longer, grazing the collarbone, and add subtle point-cutting at the ends to avoid a heavy line. This preserves density while encouraging a gentle wave. For high-porosity, coily textures, I’d layer more aggressively at the crown to reduce bulk and let the curls stack beautifully without triangle head.
If you have straight hair, this bob still works—just ask for a rounded shape with soft, face-framing pieces. For wavy 2A–2B types, I’d suggest a one-length bob with a slight underlayer to enhance the S-wave, and always finish with a curl-enhancing cream to define, not weigh down.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
