2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Espresso & Chestnut Botanical Gloss for Dimensional Brunettes. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For low-porosity hair, like Chloé’s, I warm the botanical mixture slightly and leave it on for 15 minutes, covered with a shower cap. The heat helps the gloss penetrate the tight cuticle. If your hair is medium porosity, a cool rinse after the gloss seals the color and adds extra shine.
For those with high-porosity or curly hair (3B–3C), I reduce the espresso to half and add an extra spoon of cassia powder. This prevents over-staining—especially on lighter ends—and strengthens the curl pattern. And if you’re a silver-haired brunette, skip the espresso entirely and use chamomile with chestnut for a soft, warm glow without brassiness.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
