Welcome to Part 4 of 4 of my guide on Curl-Defining Layers for Brown Girls: A Botanical Styling Guide. Keeping your cuticle glossy and your ends split-free between trims comes down to a few simple weekly habits.

Preserving Your Cuticle & Natural Shine
Long-term, your scalp microbiome thrives on consistency: wash every 3–4 days with lukewarm water, and do a monthly herbal rinse with rosemary or chamomile to soothe and stimulate. At night, protect your curls with a silk or satin bonnet or pillowcase to reduce friction and retain moisture.
Every 8 weeks, I recommend a micro-trim to remove split ends and a deep conditioning mask with botanical oils. In the salon, I finish with a cool glossing rinse to seal the cuticle and boost shine. This ritual keeps your curls resilient, your scalp balanced, and your style effortlessly beautiful—no matter the season.
