2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands

For my clients with loose waves (2B–2C), I use a lighter gloss blend—more hibiscus, less amla—and keep the layers long, starting just below the chin. This lets the wave pattern breathe and prevents the hair from looking too dense. The gloss adds a sheer, coppery glow that catches movement beautifully.

For tighter curls (3A–3B), I lean into amla and marshmallow root for extra slip and definition. The layers are cut with more internal texture, removing bulk while keeping the perimeter rounded. I always tell these clients to apply the gloss on damp, detangled hair and let it sit for 20 minutes under a warm towel—it seals the cuticle and makes every single curl pop with dimension.

🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide

  • Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
  • Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
  • High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
