2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Curly Bob Revival: Botanical Cut & Gloss for 2023. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For wavy 2B–2C hair, I keep the bob slightly longer—just grazing the collarbone—and use a sea salt spray to enhance that undone texture. The key is to cut with a slight outward angle so the waves stack softly, not bluntly. If your hair is fine, skip heavy butters and stick to a light rose hydrosol mist, which adds shine without weighing down the roots.
For tighter 3B–3C curls, I go for a shorter, rounded bob that hits the chin, cutting each curl at its own spring point. That creates a full, bouncy shape that doesn’t triangle out. I always adjust the amount of argan oil based on porosity—high porosity needs a bit more to seal, low porosity just a drop to avoid greasiness. This way, every client leaves with a bob that’s uniquely theirs.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
