2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Soft Layered Bob for Hijabi Style: A Botanical Haircut Guide. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For straight to wavy hair like Amina’s, I keep the layers long and subtle, starting just below the chin to maintain weight and avoid any triangle effect. If your hair is finer, I’d add a few shorter face-framing pieces to create the illusion of volume. For coarser or thicker textures, I’d go with more internal layering to remove bulk while keeping the perimeter strong—this prevents the bob from looking too heavy under a hijab.
If you have curly or coily hair, I’d adjust the cut to be slightly longer when dry, since curls shrink. The key is to cut in its natural state, not wet, and to use a gentle diffuser to enhance your curl pattern. Regardless of your texture, the bob’s versatility shines—you can wear it sleek and tucked, or let it peek out playfully around your scarf.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
