Camille’s 10-Minute Clean Styling Protocol
Start with a sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp without stripping natural oils. Follow with a deep conditioner rich in shea butter or aloe, leaving it on for 15 minutes under a shower cap. Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle, then apply your marshmallow root gel—I make mine by simmering dried root in water for 20 minutes, straining, and adding a teaspoon of aloe gel and a few drops of jojoba oil.
Now for the shingling: part your hair into four sections, and within each, take small vertical slices. Dip your fingers into the gel and smooth it down each slice, from root to tip, gently raking to encourage curl formation. Then, cup the curl in your palm and scrunch upward to set the shape. Continue all around your head, then either air-dry or use a diffuser on low heat with a bowl attachment, keeping the dryer moving to avoid frizz.
