2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on Curly Bob with Soft Layers: My Organic Salon Cut for 2023. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For fine, low-porosity curls, I’d keep the layers longer and avoid too much internal texturizing. You want to preserve as much bulk as possible, so the bob feels substantial, not stringy. Use a curl cream with a bit of hold, like one with flaxseed gel, to give it body without weighing it down.
If your hair is thick and high-porosity, we can go bolder with the layers—shorter at the nape, more face-framing pieces. This reduces the overall weight and helps your curls spring up. I’d recommend a richer butter, like shea, to seal the cuticle and keep frizz at bay, especially in humid weather.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
