2. Tailoring to Your Hair Porosity & Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my guide on The Sculpted Bob for Brown Curls: A Parisian Organic Cut. Every head of hair absorbs moisture and holds movement differently—here is how I customize the formula and cut proportions in my studio.

Matching Botanicals & Layers to Your Strands
For looser curls (3A–3B), I keep the bob longer, grazing the collarbone, with soft layers to encourage movement. For tighter coils (4A–4C), I go shorter, chin-length or above, and add internal layers to reduce bulk and let the curls clump beautifully. The key is porosity: low-porosity curls need more moisture, so I recommend a leave-in with shea butter; high-porosity curls benefit from a protein-rich gloss to strengthen the strand.
If you have fine curls, I’d suggest a blunt bob with minimal layers to create density. For thick, voluminous coils, a stacked bob with more layering at the back prevents the ‘pyramid’ effect. And never underestimate the power of a side part—it can soften the cut and add asymmetry, which I love for oval and round face shapes. Adapt the angle, and you’ve got a bob that’s uniquely yours.
🌿 Quick Porosity Match Guide
- Low Porosity & Fine Strands: Choose clarified herbal hydrosols (rosemary, nettle, peppermint) and airy internal layers.
- Medium Porosity & Wavy Textures: Balance lightweight aloe hydration with cold-pressed jojoba and point-cut movement.
- High Porosity & Curly Strands: Seal moisture with oat lipids, babassu butter, and flaxseed curl definition.
